Allyson, you did not make a mistake about lighting the Dedication Candles during the Gloria at the Easter Vigil. We used to do that, but, Fr. Raul doesn’t want to light the Dedication Candles anymore because, if we did, it would ruin the new paint job. Of course, lighting the Dedication Candles on major Feasts is not required, but, IMHO, on this matter, our beloved pastor is letting the tail wag the dog.

The vessels in which the Holy Oils are kept in the Ambry are called ‘chrismaria,’ which comes from the word ‘chrism.’ The word ‘Chrism’ refers to one of the three Holy Oils in particular, but, the Greek word from which ‘chrism’ is derived originally refered to any oil or ointment. Typically, when one of the Holy Oils is being used in a Liturgical Celebration, a portion of the oil is taken from its chrismarium and placed in what’s called an oil stock, which is a smaller vessel more easily used during a Liturgical Celebration.

I had my ear-pieces in the wring ears. When David said he was on the wrong side I pulled my earphones out and adjusted them :-)
